Mindful Mamas: Meet Bri

Our Mindful Mamas series spotlights other amazing mindful mamas from all over! The interviews focus on mindfulness and self-care and what it means and looks like for each mama. The goal of this series is to showcase the different ways we mamas get our self-care and mindfulness in and show how it can look/feel/be different for everyone, as well as the creative tips we mamas use to fit it in! We hope this series educates, informs and inspires you on self-care and to take some time for yourself, mama!

Meet Bri Johnson

Bri is our next Bliss'd Mindful Mama! Bri is originally from York, PA, now living outside of Philadelphia, PA and is a mama of (almost) two - a 2 year old and one on the way! She's a Stay at Home Mompreneur, and owner of Build to Become. Read on for my full interview with Bri.

What is your definition of self-care? Has this changed since becoming a mom?

Self care to me is the daily effective sustainable habits that keep me at the top of my priority list (meditation, reading, writing, movement, water, and time outside)

What does your self-care routine look like? Feel free to share small practices you do regularly and/or a set routine (morning, evening).

I have a habit check tracker that I follow daily. I don't have a set morning routine, or specific time of day where I follow through on each habit, but rather commit to getting them all in each day!

Do you practice mindfulness? If so, how?

Yes- mindset work and mindfulness is the key to be a better human which translates to being a better mom! For me, finding power in the presence is key. Knowing that intentionality in what I am doing in the very minute I am doing it is extremely important. Don't focus on what's next, but rather be in it right now!

What's a "mindful mama" tip you have?

Start with 5 minutes a day expressing gratitude. It starts with YOU. What is it that you love and are thankful for about yourself. So important to express self love!

What is your favorite self-care activity for when you have… 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 60+ minutes?

Movement!! Whether it's stretching, yoga, lifting weights or doing a high intestity workout. I love to move and sweat it out!!

What are your top 3 - 5 self-care and/or wellness products?

At Home Workout Programs, Yoga Mat and Block, Protein Powder, an awesome water bottle!

Motherhood can be overwhelming! How do you center yourself when you’re feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed?

BREATHE. It all comes back to the breath. I take a second to really be in tune with how I am feeling in that very moment. Allow myself to feel how I am feeling. Understand why I am feeling that way, take a deep breath and then get back to what I am doing. It's important to FEEL. and then go back to it later and address it if need be.

What is a tip you have for a mom interested in self-care but unsure how to start, or she feels overwhelmed with the idea of fitting it in?

Talk with someone! There are wonderful communities of other mothers out there that are experiencing very similar things. You are never alone, even when it feels like it, I can assure you are not!

When do you feel your most bliss’d out?

Following a sweaty workout!

What's a mama mantra you live by?

For ME, because of HER (my daughter)- she is my purpose and reason behind everything that I do, but it's not for her. It's for me. A better me, is a better mom and a better wife. I have to come first.
