Should You Get a Kids Gratitude Journal?
Gratitude is one of the simplest, yet most profound tools for cultivating joy, connection, and resilience. While many of us have heard about the benefits of keeping a gratitude journal, have you ever thought about introducing this practice to your kids? A kids gratitude journal is a special, tailored version of a traditional gratitude journal designed specifically to engage children in reflecting on the positive aspects of their day in a way that's fun and age-appropriate.
What is a Kids Gratitude Journal?
Unlike adult journals that may focus on long-form reflections, a kids gratitude journal often includes prompts that encourage creativity, like drawing, short sentences, or fill-in-the-blank activities. These journals are a playful yet powerful way to help children develop mindfulness, emotional awareness, and even lay the foundation for manifestation practices later in life.
Why Practice Gratitude with Your Kids?
Practicing gratitude with your children does more than create warm, fuzzy moments—it helps build a strong foundation for their mindset, emotional resilience, and even their ability to manifest a fulfilling life.
Fosters a Positive Mindset: Gratitude trains the brain to focus on what’s going well, which helps kids approach challenges with optimism. This positive lens creates fertile ground for future goal-setting and manifestation.
Encourages Mindfulness: Journaling slows children down and teaches them to notice and appreciate the present moment, a key skill for aligning with their desires and dreams.
Strengthens Emotional Resilience: Gratitude equips kids with the tools to shift their focus toward abundance, even in tough times, building confidence and adaptability.
Supports Manifestation: Gratitude is the cornerstone of manifestation. Teaching kids to appreciate the good in their lives helps them align with positive energy, making it easier to attract what they want as they grow.
Builds Connection and Empathy: When practiced as a family, gratitude journaling fosters deeper relationships, a sense of belonging, and compassion for others.
Teaching gratitude to your kids isn’t just about today—it’s a gift that will benefit them for a lifetime.
My Story: How Gratitude Became a Family Ritual
In the early days of the pandemic, my husband and I were grappling with uncertainty, layoffs, and the stress of navigating a very different world. Amidst all this, we found solace in starting a simple gratitude practice at the dinner table. Each evening, we’d go around the table and share one thing we were grateful for. At first, our then one-year-old son didn’t quite understand the concept, but over time, something amazing happened—he started to get it. Hearing him share his little joys, from a favorite snack to a fun moment in the park, was a powerful reminder of how gratitude can anchor us during life’s storms.
While I love the simplicity of sharing aloud, I always wished for a way to preserve these moments for the future—a space where our gratitude could live on as a family keepsake. That’s how our Bliss’d Family Gratitude Journal came to life.
