The Power of Affirmations for Self-Love: Mom Edition

Today, I want to talk the power of positive affirmations (I know, I know - eye roll for some of you!) because I truly believe they can help change the way you view yourself and boost your confidence.

For those of you who aren't familiar, positive affirmations are simple statements that you repeat to yourself regularly to shift your mindset and help you believe in your own worth and capabilities. Affirmations are one part of the work I do on my mindset - alongside journaling, moving my body, getting outside, and (trying to!) disconnecting from technology.

I love to listen to affirmations in the background while I'm doing household tasks (laundry, dishes, etc). At the very least, I like that it's something positive my mind absorbs.

Here are just a few reasons why positive affirmations are so powerful, along with 15 positive affirmations for self-love and motherhood:

They help you focus on the positive

When we're feeling down or insecure, it's easy to get caught up in negative self-talk. We start to believe that we're not good enough, smart enough, or pretty enough. But when you repeat positive affirmations to yourself, you're actively choosing to focus on the good things about yourself. You're reminding yourself of your strengths, your beauty, and your worth.

They can reprogram your subconscious

Our thoughts and beliefs are deeply ingrained in our subconscious minds, and it can be hard to change them. But when you repeat affirmations to yourself regularly, you're essentially reprogramming your subconscious to believe in your own worth and capabilities. Over time, this can lead to a profound shift in your mindset and your self-perception.

They boost your confidence

When you believe in yourself and your abilities, you naturally feel more confident. Affirmations can help you tap into that confidence and carry it with you throughout the day. Whether you're heading to a job interview, a social event, or just tackling your daily routine, affirmations can give you the boost of self-assurance you need to succeed.

So, how do you use affirmations?

It's simple, really. Just choose a few statements that truly resonate with you (for example, "I am strong," "I am worthy of love," or "I trust myself to make good decisions"), and repeat them to yourself regularly. You can say them out loud, write them down in a journal, create visual reminders (like sticky notes on your mirror or desktop wallpaper), or do as I do and go the podcast route (I like Bob Baker on Apple Podcast).

The key is to make affirmations a regular part of your self-care routine. Try repeating them to yourself every morning when you wake up, or before you go to bed at night. You can also use them as a tool to shift your mindset in the moment when you're feeling stressed or insecure.

Remember, mamas: you are amazing, capable, and worthy of love and respect. Use affirmations to remind yourself of that every day, and watch as your confidence and self-love grow.
